History

The Beshoff name has been synonymous with quality fish for generations.

Grandfather Ivan Beshoff came to Ireland from Russia in 1913 and lived to 104 years.

His father lived to 108 and his grandfather to 115 – enough said about the goodness of fish.

The Beshoff concept is in sharp contrast with other Fish Restaurants. We offer fresh natural products in old world surroundings – we emphasize the healthy aspect of our food. We strive to achieve a look that evokes an Edwardian oyster bar.

Quality is the keyword in the Beshoff story. Our buyers are on the quayside to select the very best catch from the trawlers. There can be as many as 20 varieties in the days catch ranging from rock salmon or cod to squid and scallops. We also aim at providing a daily special dictated by season and market prices. We put considerable research and development time into perfecting our own special batter recipe.

Carefully selected potatoes are used to produce freshly cut chips. Beshoff's are unique in serving a quality fresh chip. We use pure vegetable oil which is low in cholesterol. These properties have been a major attraction to our health conscious customers.

The Beshoff philosophy is highly geared towards costumer service, we believe the basic ingredient for success is a happy satisfied costumer.

Why should we eat fish?

Fish should form part of a healthy diet because it is a highly nutritious food.

Protein: Fish is high in protein which is needed for the growth and repair of all the tissues in our bodies.

Fat: Different type of fish contain different amounts of fat. White fish like cod may contain as little as 1.2% fat while oily fish may contain up to 20% fat. Th fat in oily fish is high in polyunsaturates.

Minerals: Fish contains calcium, phosphorous and iodine. These regulate normal body processes and ensure the proper use of other nutrients.

Vitamins: Oily fish like mackerel, herring and salmon, are good sources of Vitamin A and Vitamin D. These vitamins are essential for healthy bones and teeth.

Calories: Because fish, particularly white fish, is low in fat, it is also low in calories.
